Washing soda is an invaluable substance to have in your cupboard. Used in everything from cleaning bathroom tiles to making your whites brighter in the wash, this ordinary household powder can be a mum's best friend when it comes to cleaning up after the family! But what is washing soda, and how can it make doing the laundry an easier task? Read on to find out how you can use washing soda with your regular Surf excel Matic detergent.
What is washing soda?
Washing soda is sometimes known as soda ash, and its proper chemical name is sodium carbonate. Not to be confused with baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), washing soda is a powerful alkali and therefore can be used in a variety of cleaning tasks. Although it can be used for descaling kettles and removing limescale from surfaces, many mums find it extremely helpful when it comes to the laundry cycle. Because it has a high salt content, it's also great for families living in hard water areas, as the sodium neutralises the minerals in hard water and allows your detergent to foam and clean more effectively.
How can I use washing soda in my laundry?
Washing soda is safe to use, but you need to take a few precautions. Make sure it is clearly labelled and keep it out of reach of children. Here are some common uses for washing soda when washing clothes.
