World Happiness Day is on 20 March, and while we all strive to make our kids happy, it can be shockingly easy to make other things a priority – such as work, household chores, or just day-to-day tasks. International Happiness Day isn’t about making sure our kids have a smile on their faces on this day alone – it’s simply a reminder that there’s nothing more important than happy kids.
In celebration of this cheerful occasion, here are a few simple ways in which you can make daily life happier for both you and your loved ones:
1. For Happy Children, Teach Your Kids About Their Culture
You may think that giving your kids some candies as a sweet treat is what makes them happy – but believe it or not, there is something kids may like even more! Helping your kids understand their family’s culture and beliefs is a great way to help your kids feel happy, connected, and curious.
Involving your own parents can be a wonderful way for your kids to learn about their culture and bond with their grandparents at the same time. On World Happiness Day, you could plan a fun activity for your little ones to do with their grandparents – something that is sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face!
2. Spend Quality Time with Your Kids this World Happiness Day
Once again, while it’s easy to believe that material gifts make a happy child, recent studies have revealed that what our kids want more than anything is to spend quality time with us! While around 39 percent of adults cite toys making them happy during childhood, a whopping 89 percent claimed they were happiest when doing activities with their parents.
Simply playing games together, learning new things with one another, or partaking in fun group activities is enough to make our kids joyous, and it can be exciting for us, too! Crafts are an activity that can work really well. Why not turn one of your tables into a crafting desk, complete with paints, crayons, paper, glitter, and all sorts of bright and vibrant art supplies?
Make it a habit to sit down with your kids and create masterpieces to hang on your wall, or give to friends and family as homemade gifts. Just have fun!
3. Happy Kids Get Active
Most kids love to be active – racing around the local park or heading out on their bicycles – and it’s important for us as parents to take an interest in our kids’ hobbies. It’s even more important in terms of physical activity, because not only does it encourage our children to maintain a healthy lifestyle, it can also make them happy!
Research suggests that sports participation has a positive effect upon the subjective well_being of the population. Physical activity promotes the release of endorphins that make us feel good, so get moving! If you’re not very good at sports, don’t worry. Any sort of movement is good for you, and for your kids, so even just having a bit of a dance around the house can put a smile on your face and give you happy children!
